Gamers wouldn't be limited to those specifications, of course, but it would provide some kind of base to go off of. With a Steam Box, developers could target specific versions when creating games, or even tweak settings to match different generations of the gaming PC. And despite its modest graphics requirements, some gamers are realizing that their computers can't handle the game, underscoring the number one challenge PC gaming faces: a lack of uniformity. The always-online requirement is already causing problems for many gamers. Whenever a major title comes out across platforms - whether that's Call of Duty MW3 or Skyrim - it's a good sign for PC gamers. Meanwhile, the sheer quantity of high-quality indie games available for PC, and the many modding communities that bulwark and extend the lives of those games, makes PC gaming the most diverse and interesting platform available. Online distribution services like Steam and GOG.com have great deals on all sorts of titles and make purchasing and playing those titles really easy and convenient.
